Arctic Monkeys Make Single Available via Charity Shops

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Arctic Monkeys are to release a special edition of their forthcoming single “Cornerstone” through Oxfam charity shops.

An exclusive 10″ vinyl version of the second single to be taken from the band’s third album Humbug, will be available in Oxfam shops from November 16.

B-sides will be three brand new Arctic Monkeys songs: ‘Catapult’, ‘Sketchead’ and ‘Fright Lined Dining Room’.

The vinyl version will come with MP3 download codes for all four tracks, plus the band are giving fans a chance to win a “golden ticket” for their upcoming tour, tickets being hidden in copies of the Oxfam vinyl.

Sheffield indie titans Arctic Monkeys stormed Wembley Arena last night (November 17th) unleashing a torrent of hits.

With Oasis having fallen by the wayside, Arctic Monkeys are now perhaps the biggest and most important group in Britain.

Speaking for the same working people who Oasis represented, the band’s tales of toil and trouble in 9 to 5 life has seem them transformed into icons. Alex Turner’s kitchen sink realism has earned acclaim, with the band’s latest album bowling over critics and setting new chart records.

Currently touring across the nation, Arctic Monkeys took to the stage last night (November 17th) at Wembley Arena – one of the band’s largest ever indoor shows.

Opening with ‘Dance Little Liar’ fans went berserk to each offering from ‘Humbug’. Playing six tracks from the recent album it seemed as if the new material was tailor made for enormous venues such as Wembley Arena.

Playing a bunch of hits from their hugely successful back catalogue, Alex Turner paused before the single ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ to say: “Hello everybody, it’s Arctic Monkeys at Wembley Arena”.

The band barely stopped between songs, unleashing a torrent of classic tracks. Each member of Arctic Monkeys appeared on an enormous TV screen, with fans going wild for new single ‘Cornerstone’.

Taken from recent album ‘Humbug’ the track is vintage Arctic Monkeys

Kings of Leon to Appear in New Photo Exhibition

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Kings Of Leon are to be profiled in a new photo exhibition in London.

NME photographer and friend of the band Jo McCaughey has documented the quartet’s lives over the last decade, hand-picking the best shots for the exhibition.

Launching tomorrow (October 21), ‘Kings Of Leon: Ten Year Reign’ runs at London’s Proud Galleries in Camden until December 6.

“The idea of just jumping on the tour bus and going along for the ride,” said McCaughey, “shooting with no pretense… For a lot of my photographic life that’s just what I’ve done, and I’ve had a blast.”

White Lies have denied that the members of Kings of Leon are not getting along.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, White Lies drummer Jack Lawrence-Brown said that the band appeared to be having a “great time” on their US tour.

Lawrence-Brown pointed out that the media has made several claims that Kings of Leon have been involved in fights, but noted that they are family and are so likely to get into spats with each other.

“On this tour I’ve got to say they seemed to be having a really great time and they all seem to have become really comfortable with what they’re doing,” the stickman told the broadcaster.

White Lies bassist Charles Cave also said that his band’s support slot with Kings Of Leon was the best tour they have been on, despite them previously hitting the road with Coldplay and Snow Patrol.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, Kings of Leon’s Jared Followill said the band do not always agree on the musical direction of their songs or who takes the writing credit.
