The Theory behind Search Engine Optimization

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Web marketing falls into several categories: publicity and pr, advertising, social media management, and search engine optimization. Search engine optimization has been the target of pretty harsh criticism because some people (Web spammers) use invasive and abusive techniques to promote their sites to the top of search results. But many marketers in the search engine optimization community practice what are called white hat techniques. They try not to violate search engine guidelines while adjusting their clients’ sites to improve search referrals.

Search engine optimization is built on the theory that there is a searchable Web ecosystem that contains publishers, indexers, and searchers. In this ecosystem everyone can optimize search for their own own needs. Publishers optimize search to be found, indexers optimize search to serve better results to their users, and searchers optimize search to improve their chances of finding what they are looking for. This concept is part of the basic theory that is used to explain how people use search engine optimization.

Search engine optimization, called SEO, works like any other scientific process. People study what happens when they make changes to Websites and then they try to reproduce those effects. So if you change the title on a Web page and the page gets a better ranking in search engines then you know that changing a page title can help. If you put a link on a page and the site you link to gets more search traffic you know the link is helping.

SEO uses a lot of SEO theory to figure out how to get more traffic from search engines. A lot of sites stop the search engines from sending them traffic. So often an SEO specialist just works to fix the problems on the site. In SEO theory this is called maintenance work. Some people spend a lot of time putting links on other sites. Some people ask other sites to link to their sites. In SEO theory this is called link building.

A great way to go about this is, you need to find out what specific solutions to a given problem a unique market segment is anticipating, and which solutions will assist them. A good method of doing this is to find groups of extremely drilled down words or phrases; in general people search for these less, even so they convert far more.

These profitable keywords can be rooted out by using Micro Niche Finder. Data collected from this program or other applications or software compiles a list of related keywords giving worthwhile information to obtain an advantage when it comes to ranking on an internet based search.

Micro Niche Finder data will also let you know detailed information on the keywords or phrases, the number of other sites using the particular keyword or phrase, and how strong those sites are. Finally, the data returned should help you locate appropriate domains, subject matter for your site, and also draw attention to suitable goods to market.

Building a web site is next; however there are still fundamental tasks to complete. Search engine optimization is an absolute must. This is where Seo Elite information and other similar programs comes in. This application automatically analyzes the web sites of your rivals and can advise you exactly what you can do to have good rankings in the search engine listings.

Exploring Mechanisms You Developed to Survive Your Family - Accommodation

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

You developed mechanisms of accommodations, rebellion, and mimicry to survive growing up in your family. Let’s look first at accommodation.

ACCOMMODATION–AND SUCCESS

Do you know people who can’t enjoy any success they have in their career? Does it not make any sense to you when you see them unable to bask in the light of their achievements? It may make sense if you understood their family life growing up. Here is one example: a parent who lived through the children’s accomplishments, and needed for them to be perfect in everything they did. And so, good grades were never good enough. What would a 90 percent on a test ensure? Endless criticism, a clutching of the chest in disbelief, and bitter complains.

And what would the child’s response be to all of this? The belief that if she weren’t perfect, she’d ruin her parents’ life. What behaviors would it cause in such children? They’d become driven, feeling that no matter how much they achieved, it was never enough. Where would that lead? To the inability to enjoy any achievement, to never be able to relax, have fun, and do any activity for the pleasure of it because to do so would make them feel guilty. Unconsciously, they assume that their parent will feel devastated if they’re not always seeking to achieve more. And more and more.

ACCOMMODATION–AND RELATIONSHIPS

Does any people you know, friends perhaps, have trouble getting close to someone they’re strongly attracted to? Looked at from the outside in, it may not make a lot of sense, but looked at from the inside, it probably does. What if a friend had a parent who was extremely needy, who absolutely had to be in full possession of your friend’s love and attention? Your friend’s closeness to this parent was essential for the parent’s well-being, so much so that they he or she would resent your friend’s normal involvement with others. Sulking, acting depressed and moody when your friend was happy or close to anyone else (including teachers, grandparents, or friends) were well within the repertoire of this parent’s behavior whenever your friend was spending time with others. Finding fault with anyone your friend valued was another sign that the parent felt wounded by the child. What was the effect of all of this on your friend? An obligation to change his or her personality just to maintain a relationship to the parent: staying tied to the apron strings, complimenting the parent all the time, showing extra affection, spending less time with friends. All are possible coping mechanisms developed by your friend to accommodate this parent’s possessive need for him or her. “Loyalty” will become a high priority moral value in your friend’s mind and it will have a powerful influence throughout his or her life. And the effect of this particular accommodation on future relationships Will be detrimental at best, dysfunctional at worst. Your friend will either feel uncomfortable pursuing friends for fear of being disloyal to his parent, or he’ll worry that anyone he’s seriously involved with will require undue loyalty and devotion from him. This is how accommodation can start and it is also the start of some people’s self-defeating motivations. In the case study below, we’ll see how one man’s accommodation affected his ability to succeed in business and in relationships.

YOU’RE STUCK

Did you ever have a terribly painful blind date–one that, thankfully, only lasted a short time? Now think about your childhood situation. You’re stuck with your parents and siblings for years and years, no matter what. Now think of the accumulated resentment building up after years of accommodating behaviors that you know shifted you away from some of your normal qualities and goals. To relieve this resentment, you may have become an accommodator. Another route you could have taken was rebellion. What does that look like and how does it show up in your life? Let’s see.

Two Steps to an Investment-Free Online Empire

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

If you’re like most of us, you’re not on a budget that allows you to spend massive amounts of money on advertising for your Internet marketing campaign. With that in mind, let me show you a fairly simple two-step formula for profiting online with little or no investment.

How much does it cost you to write an informative Internet marketing article? The only cost is a little time, but essentially it’s free. The key is to write as many articles as possible, not just one or two.

After you’ve written a number of articles, go ahead and submit these to the top twenty article directories, as well as the top twenty ezine article directories. Be sure to follow their submission guidelines. I recommend you format your sentences at no more than 60 characters per line to meet the requirements of these different directories.

At the end of each of your articles you will include a resource box that entices your readers to click through to, not your website, but your free blog! Remember how I told you this method would be investment-free?

For a general idea of what a resource box looks like, take a look at mine at the end of this article. Offer readers a benefit for clicking through to your blog, and they most assuredly will.

You can create a blog in minutes by going to blogger.com. Then continue to do what you’ve been doing already; keep writing articles. Devote half of your time to writing articles for submission, and half of your time to creating quality content for your blog.

On the side of your blog, create links to the five to seven best products that offer affiliate programs that you are signed up for. Include them under a heading that is most appropriate for your topic.

Include “sleeper links” to merchant sites that you can earn affiliate commission from. Don’t create blog entries that are nothing more than product pitches. Make your blog entries informative, and tie in subtle endorsements to products that help to meet their needs.

For example, read the sentence a couple of paragraphs above where I told you that you could “create a blog in minutes by going to blogger.com”. Simple, isn’t it? As a general rule, don’t include affiliate links in more than 30-40% of your blog entries. If you do, your visitor will feel like you’re trying to constantly sell them.

Besides, if your blog entries are information-rich and informative, they will keep reading and eventually run into one or more of your affiliate links anyway! Chances are that they will likely click on one of your affiliate links located on the side of your blog page as well.

While you will eventually want to get your own website, if you are on a shoestring budget, this is the best method that I am aware of for profiting without spending a dime, or selling your own product. By creating quality content on a regular basis, repeat visits are virtual guaranteed, and the more articles you submit, the higher your affiliate commission will be!

**Attn Ezine editors/Site owners** Feel free to reprint this article in its entirety in your ezine or on your site so long as you leave all links in place, do not modify the content and include our resource box as listed below. Feel free to substitute your referral link in place of ours in the resource box. Thanks!

Secrets to Aromatherapy II – Psychological Complaints

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Aromatherapy is very therapeutic when it comes to healing
emotional and psychological conditions. This is because the
essential oils from plants contain all kinds of compounds,
phytoestrogens and phytochemicals that have the ability to
subtly alter brain chemistry for the better.

Given the stressful demands of today’s busy schedules,
anxiety is a very common problem. There are scores of
essential oils that can be used to combat this common
psychological complaint. To achieve the best results try to
buy high quality or organic oils as they contain the
highest concentration of compounds, phyto estrogens and
phyto-chemicals.

For anxiety you can try companioning a few drops of any of
these oils in a base carrier oil such as olive or almond
and applying them to your pulse points or temples. You can
also disperse the oils through the air using a diffuser or
candle oil warmer or add a few drops of the oil to eight
ounces of distilled water and mist your surroundings. You
can also shoot a mist straight up into the air and walk
through it so that the plant’s healing molecules cling to
your clothing, skin and hair. For acute anxiety, you can
try applying the oils to a hanky or Kleenex and sniffing
the aroma whenever you feel a panic attack setting in. The
best aromatherapy oils to use for anxiety are balsam fir,
bergamot, cedar wood, frankincense, lavender, jasmine,
neroli, rose and ylang ylang. Linden blossoms, in
particular are excellent to use to stop a full-blown
anxiety attack and geranium is the oil to use if menstrual
or menopausal issues cause the anxiety.

If you have been overworking (also a common problem in
this hectic society) and feel like you are on the verge of
burnout warming oils such as basil, bergamot, cinnamon,
clove, eucalyptus, ginger, lavender, orange, neroli (orange
blossom) and patchouli can help revitalize your senses and
raise your spirits. Essential lime oil is known as a brain
chiller and alleviates cases of obsessive thoughts or
racing mind.

Some essential oils have been known to be specifically
beneficial for depression. Balsam Fir, basil, cedar wood,
neroli and lavender have been known to level out mood
swings. Lemon, orange, peppermint and vanilla scented oils
help lift “brain fog” and put you in a cheerier mood.

If insomnia is keeping you up at night try misting your
bedding or diffusing any combination of the following
essential oils through your bedroom: chamomile, clary sage,
frankincense, lavender, neroli, rose or sandalwood.

Basil, clary sage or rose oils can also be used to aid
those who have suffered a sudden shock or who are
overwhelmed with unbearable grief. Apply one or a mixture
of these oils immediately to the pulse points to calm and
pacify the sorrowful individual.

Essential oils can also be used to help enhance your
mental performance. If you need to stay awake while driving
or be as sharp as possible while studying any oil from the
mint family (peppermint, spearmint) can help you burn the
candle from both ends.

Common Exhibit Marketing Mistakes: Ten Tips on How to Avoid Them

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The key to great exhibiting is marketing. But marketing is a very inexact science that leaves room for a multitude of errors to occur. The following are 10 of the most common marketing mistakes that exhibitors often make. Learn to avoid them and you will increase your chances for a successful tradeshow.

1. Have A Proper Exhibit Marketing Plan

Having both a strategic exhibit marketing and tactical plan of action is a critical starting point. In order to make tradeshows a powerful dimension your company’s overall marketing operation, there must be total alignment between the strategic marketing and your exhibit marketing plan. Tradeshows should not be a stand-alone venture. Know and understand exactly what you wish to achieve – increasing market share with existing users; introducing new products/services into existing markets or into new markets; or introducing new products/services into new markets. This is the nucleus on which to build.

2. Have A Well-Defined Promotional Plan

A significant part of your marketing includes promotion – pre-show, at-show and post-show. Most exhibitors fail to have a plan that encompasses all three areas. Budget is naturally going to play a major role in deciding what and how much promotional activity is possible. Developing a meaningful theme or message that ties into your strategic marketing plan will then help to guide promotional decisions. Know whom you want to target and then consider having different promotional programs aimed at the different groups you are interested in attracting. Include direct mail, broadcast faxes, advertising, PR, sponsorship, and the Internet as possible ways to reach your target audience.

3. Use Direct Mail Effectively

Direct mail is still one of the most popular promotional vehicles exhibitors use. From postcards to multi-piece mailings, attendees are deluged with invitations to visit booths. Many of the mailings come from show management’s lists and as a result, everyone gets everything. To target the people you want visit your booth, use your own list of customers and prospects–it’s the best one available. Design a piece that is totally benefit-oriented and makes an impact. Mail three pieces at regular intervals prior to the show, starting about four weeks out, to help ensure your invitation is seen. Wherever possible, use first-class mail. There’s nothing worse than a mailing that arrives after the show is over.

4. Give Visitors An Incentive To Visit Your Booth

Whatever promotional vehicles you use, make sure that you give visitors a reason to come and visit you. With a hall overflowing with fascinating products/services, combined with time constraints, people need an incentive to come and visit your booth. First and foremost their primary interest is in “what’s new!” They are eager to learn about the latest technologies, new applications, or anything that will help save them time and/or money. Even if you don’t have a new product/service to introduce, think about a new angle to promote your offerings.

5. Have Giveaways That Work

Tied into giving visitors an incentive to visit your booth is the opportunity to offer a premium item that will entice them. Your giveaway items should be designed to increase your memorability, communicate, motivate, promote or increase recognition of your company. Developing a dynamite giveaway takes thought and creativity. Consider what your target audience wants, what will help them do their job better, what they can’t get elsewhere, what is product/service related and educational. Think about having different gifts for different types of visitors. Use your website to make an offer for visitors to collect important information, such as an executive report, when they visit your booth. Giveaways should be used as a reward or token of appreciation for visitors participating in a demonstration, presentation or contest, or as a thank-you for qualifying information about specific needs etc.

6. Use Press Relations Effectively

Public relations is one of the most cost-effective and successful methods for generating large volumes of direct inquiries and sales. Before the show ask show management for a comprehensive media list, and find out which publications are planning a special show edition. Send out newsworthy press releases focusing on what’s new about your product/service, or highlighting a new application or market venture. Compile press kits for the press office that include information about industry trends, statistics, new technology or production information. Also include good product photos and key company contacts. Have staff members at the booth who are specifically assigned to interact with the media

7. Differentiate Your Products/Services

Too many exhibitors are happy to use the “me too” marketing approach. Examine their marketing plans and there’s an underlying sameness about them. With shows that attract hundreds of exhibitors, there are very few that seem to “stand out from the crowd.” Since memorability is an integral part of a visitors’ show experience, you should be looking at what makes you different and why a prospect should buy from you. This is of particular concern with generic products in your industry. Every aspect of your exhibit marketing plan, including your promotions, your booth and your people should be aimed at making an impact and creating curiosity.

8. Use The Booth As An Effective Marketing Tool

On the show floor your exhibit makes a strong statement about who your company is, what you do and how you do it. The purpose of your exhibit is to attract visitors so that you can achieve your marketing objectives. In addition to it being an open, welcoming and friendly space, there needs to be a focal point and a strong key message that communicates a significant benefit to your prospect. Opt for large graphics rather than reams of copy. Pictures paint a thousand words while very few exhibitors will take the time to read. Your presentations or demonstrations are a critical part of your exhibit marketing. Create an experience that allows visitors use as many of their senses as possible. This will help to enhance memorability.

9. Realize That Your People Are Your Marketing Team

Your people are your ambassadors. They represent everything your company stands for, so choose them well. Brief them beforehand and make sure that they know: why you are exhibiting; what you are exhibiting and what you expect from them. Exhibit staff training is essential for a unified and professional image. Make sure that they sell instead of tell; don’t try to do too much; understand visitor needs; don’t spend too much time; and know how to close the interaction with a commitment to follow-up.

Avoid overcrowding the booth with company representatives. Have strict rules regarding employees visiting the show and insist staffers not scheduled for booth duty stay away until their assigned time. Assign specific tasks for company executives working the show.

10. Follow-Up Promptly

The key to your tradeshow success is wrapped up in the lead-management process. The best time to plan for follow-up is before the show. Show leads often take second place to other management activities that occur after being out of the office for several days. The longer leads are left unattended, the colder and more mediocre they become. It is to your advantage to develop an organized, systematic approach to follow-up. Establish a lead handling system, set time lines for follow-up, use a computerized database for tracking, make sales representatives accountable for leads given to them, and then measure your results.
